No Sew Owl Wings

For Halloween this year my daughter told me she wanted to be an Owl.  I know not the typical costume for a 6yr old girl, but after last years Hippo I was not too surprised. 

I actually took my daughter with me to the craft store to help pick out the fabric for her costume.  Once we got into the isle she started grabbing fabric off the shelf, the kid knew what she wanted!  Of course the fabric she picked was like ten dollars a yard so I put it back and went to go find similar fabric that was a LOT cheaper. 

Although I did most of the work on this costume she did help a little.  I could have had her help more, but we did not have the time with Halloween just a few weeks away.

There are two other parts to this costume the dress and the mask.  I will be posting each of those separately so that I can post full tutorials for each and if I did it all in one post it would just be too long.

Supplies
1 Yard of Fabric for Wing Base
2 Yards of Blue Fabric (keep in mind I used this for the dress too)
2 Yards of Pink Fabric (keep in mind I used this for the dress too)
2 Yards of Green Fabric (keep in mind I used this for the dress too)
1pkg of Blue, Pink, and Green Feathers (optional)
Fabric Glue (I used Beacon Fabri-Tac)
1/4" Braided Elastic
Feather Template

Directions

 Measure the length of your arms from wrist to wrist.

Then Measure your back from Neck to lower back.

 Cut out the fabric based on the measurements of arms and back.

Measure across the arm length.  Measure down the length of the back.

 Fold your fabric in half and then draw a curved line from one corner to the opposite corner.

 Cut out the line you just drew then unfold your fabric (it should look like the above photo).

Now cut a line down the center of the fabric leaving about an inch to two inches at the top.

Cut out your feather template and then start tracing it onto your different colored fabric.

Cut out the feathers from the fabric.

 Use your fabric glue to glue the feathers onto your wing base.

 

 You can choose any pattern to glue them in.

 Don't worry if you go over the top with your feathers.  

You can just cut off the excess when done.

 Cut out two pieces of the elastic, measure them to fit your wrist.

Then glue them on each of the top corners of the wings.

 If you choose too start gluing your real colored feathers under some of the fabric feathers.

Just glue them around both wings in a sporadic pattern.
