Spring Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders

I don't think I have ever been this excited for Spring before.  Our Winter has seemed to go on and on this year.  And I have to say I am not the only one who appears to feel this way, the birds and squirrels all seem to be very excited too!

So I thought it would be nice to make the birds some cookie cutter feeders.  The girls and I all love watching the birds and these feeders help bring the birds around so we can watch them. I thought since it was Spring we would make them into flower and butterfly shapes.  My oldest daughter wanted to make one for her teacher so she made an apple one to give to her.

Since this was our first time making these I was not sure how many feeders we would get.  I planned for four but had enough of the mixture for five. We also learned that you really need to press the birdseed mixture into the cookie cutters so it is packed in really good, that makes them hold together better.

The birds loved them and we got to see several come and eat our special treats.  I added a picture below of one eating them.  My daughters teacher really loved hers too and I sure hope she gets to enjoy watching the birds eat it too!

Supplies
 3/4 cup birdseed
1/4 cup water
1 small envelope of knox gelatine
twine or string
cookie cutters
wax paper
Twine

Directions
Cut your twine and tie the ends in a knot.  (make one for each bird feeder you are making)
 Pour water into pot
Add your knox gelatine to the water.
Bring to a simmer and continue stirring until the gelatine is dissolved.
 Add your birdseed and mix
Place your cookie cutters on wax paper
Then fill the cookie cutter half way with your birdseed mixture
Place your twine on top of the birdseed mixture in the cookie cutter.  Then finish filling them with the birdseed mixture.
Make sure you press the birdseed mixture down well then let them sit to dry.  Flip them over from time to time so they dry faster.
Once dry take them out of the cookie cutters.
Now hang them from a tree for the birds
Enjoy watching the birds eat the treats you made!

    1. Oh your kidding. I wanted to plant some blueberries, but I did not think about the birds eating them. Um I will have to figure out where I could plant them and I might have a chance of getting some to eat!

    1. We have tried the pinecones ones too, they are easier but the peanut butter melts in the heat. So I thought these would work better with the warmer Spring temps and they held up great!

    1. Oh I bet the squirrels would love them. Our squirrels pretty much stay in our back yard so I feed the birds in my front. And you know I never thought about why they don't come to the front to get the food, that is weird!
