Crock-Pot Apple Butter

We went Apple picking yesterday.  So you know that means you are going to be getting a LOT of apple recipes for a while right?

I grew up in Miami Florida where we did not really have seasons, and so I really get a kick out of all the seasonal stuff that we can do here in the Midwest.  One of my favorites is the apple picking.  It is such a great family activity and well let’s face it apples are YUMMY!  Here are a couple pictures of our fun time getting all our apples, if you get the chance I highly recommend planning this as one of your next family outings!

Since I knew we were going to be getting a TON of apples I started asking friends and searching pintrest for some good recipes to try.  I found this easy crockpot apple butter recipe from Teacher-Chef and decided to give it a try, but I did not want to make the amount she made so I cut the recipe in half and instead of it taking 16 hours it only took between 8 and 9 for ours to be ready.  Also on her recipe she says you can add sugar but I thought it was great without and did not add any sugar at all and my family loved it anyway.  So here is another great healthy treat I can feed my girls and they don’t even know it is healthy!

Ingredients
Apples – We used about 13 but our apples were small
2 Cinnamon Sticks
½ tsp Ground Nutmeg
½ tsp Ground Cloves
1 Cup Apple Cider

Directions
Peel, core, and slice your apples then put them in the crockpot
Add all other ingredients to the crock pot and set on low for about 8 to 9 hours.

Store and eat your yummy apple butter (you could just lick it off the toast as my little one did!).  We filled 2 half pint jars with this recipe.

  24. There are apple trees everywhere here in Germany. We are going for a walk tomorrow to pick a few. We made apple crisp earlier this week and the kids want to make applesauce next. We usually cook it on the stove. I didn't know you could do it in the crock pot too, but it makes sense. It looks like yours turned out good.
