Salt Dough Fall Garland

I love salt dough.  It is great for so many things, yet you usually only hear about it around Christmas time to make ornaments.  But really there are so many other possibilities with it, for Mothers Day we made some pretty flowers.

My girls have so much fun when we do anything with salt dough because they get to make a recipe and do a craft at the same time.  They think it is so cool that they can paint their cookies (since we use cookie cutters they call them cookies).  So this past weekend I thought we would pull out our recipe for Salt Dough again and make a fun Fall Garland for the mantel.

The girls had a blast cutting out the shapes and painting them.  And it looks so great hanging from the mantel, we just may have to do this for every holiday!

Have you ever made Salt Dough?  What do you make with your Salt Dough?

Supplies
2 Cups All-Purose Flour
1/2 Cup Salt
3/4 Cup Warm Water
Fall Cookie Cutters
Toothpick
Fall Colored Paint
Paint Brushes
Yarn

Directions
Mix your Flour, Salt, and Water in a bowl till it forms a dough.
Roll dough out and use your cookie cutters to cut out shapes
Put cut out shapes on cookie sheet and stick a toothpick in your shapes and move around to make hole bigger.
Bake at 300 for about 1 hour until dough is hard
Once the shapes are cooled paint them in fall colors
After the paint is dry, string the shapes on too your yarn.  Make sure to tie a knot on each one so they stay in place.
Now just hang on your mantel for a pretty fall decoration!

  7. Super cute project! I like salt dough, but I haven't made it in years. It's tougher to justify when I don't have kids to pretend it's for them!
