My daughter really loves butterflies, she tries to catch them all the time. A few months back her Kindergarten class did a project where they raised some caterpillars and watched them build their cocoons then turn into butterflies. The whole class did a document where they got to draw pictures of the entire process and talk about each stage of the transformation.
Needless to say my daughter thought this whole thing was pretty cool. She talked about it a lot and was really excited when the butterflies finally emerged from the cocoons and they set them free. I wanted to do this with the girls this summer but with us going to visit family the timing was just off.
So I thought it would be fun to make some butterflies of our own for her to keep. She was so excited about making these and has been playing with them for a few days now. They are pretty simple to make I did however help her with putting the buttons on the pipe cleaners but she was able to do all the rest herself. Once the excitement is over and she is done playing with them, I plan on hanging them from the ceiling in her room, I just think they would look so cute flying around the room!
Supplies
Yarn (any color)
Buttons (2 big 2 smaller per butterfly)
Craft Sticks (2 per butterfly)
Pipe cleaner (1 per butterfly)
Glue Gun
Directions
Using your glue gun glue two craft sticks together in an X shape
Then glue the end of your yarn to the middle of your X
Wrap your yarn around one end of your X and keep wrapping till you get to the end
Then using your glue gun glue the end of the string to your craft stick
Then repeat for the other side of your X
Then repeat for the other side of your X
Slip two buttons onto one end of your pipe cleaner
Then feed the pipe cleaner through again to make the eyes and anti
Repeat on other end of pipe cleaner
Repeat on other end of pipe cleaner
Now wrap your pipe cleaner around the center of your butterfly
Now play with your new toy or hang them up in your room!
