One thing I did learn when we made our butterflies is that if you want bright colors you need to use more food color. So don't be stingy with it, add a couple extra drops of each color to make sure your flowers are bright and beautiful! Another useful thing we learned from making these is if you make them on your baking cooling racks they will dry a lot faster. I just set this all up with the coffee filters on the racks to start with and in just a couple hours they were dry and ready for us to make the flowers.
My oldest had no issue at all making the flowers, but I did have to help my little one make them. She was able to squirt the colored water on the filters no problem and actually really loved that part, but assembling the flowers was a little too hard for her. So if you are doing this with younger children you may need to help a bit.
Supplies
Coffee Filters
Green Pipe Cleaners
Food Coloring
Water
Eye Droppers
Vase
Directions
Mix your food color with some water (the more food color you use the brighter your flowers)
Using your Eye Droppers squirt color onto your coffee filters until they are totally wet
Let your coffee filters dry (I found they dry faster on baking cooling racks)
Once dry, put your finger in the center of the filter and fold it around your finger (should be shaped like above picture)
Now wrap your pipe cleaner around the bottom of the filter
This is how it should look when the pipe cleaner is attached
Now fan out the fiter
Isn't it remarkable all the things that can be done with coffee filters?! 'Love your project! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteDo you know that you've recently become a "no reply" blogger?
It is cool how many things you can use them for! And no I did not know that, I switched over to use my google profile and that much have done that. I think I just fixed it. Will you let me know if it is still showing "no reply". Thanks Marci!

ReplyDeleteWe tried something similar to this and they took forever to dry. Putting them on a cookie rack to dry is brilliant! Glad you linked up with Tender Moments.
